The ODTUG Kaleidoscope 2010 Community Service Day was a huge success! With over sixty participants braving the hot D.C. day, Ronald H. Brown Middle School received a much-needed make-over.

Under the guidance of Greater DC Cares (GDCC), the leading and largest nonprofit coordinator of volunteerism in the D.C. region, ODTUGgers organized piles of good reading in the library and planted, pruned, and prettied the school grounds. The ODTUG volunteers also painted a basketball court, U.S. map, fun games, and an awesome “Ron Brown Rockets” sign with a rainbow of bright colors on the blacktop. It all turned out great, and most importantly, the students at the middle school were thrilled with the results.

In the planning and cleaning stages before the artwork masterpiece graces the blacktop.

Previous Community Service Projects

"I was glad I participated in the service day...It was fun working with my team and the day went by quickly. For a newcomer to ODTUG, it was a good way to meet new people and get to know them a bit. It made for a few familiar faces during the conference. I would be glad to have the chance to give back and do the same kind of thing again."
"It isn’t often (if ever) that many of us take time to get involved in community service projects, but when we’re allocating time for a conference, it is relatively easy for some of us to add one day (especially a Saturday) for a volunteer project. My employer and I hope many others also support taking an extra day to support volunteerism and a good cause."

Do you feel like you missed out on giving back?
You can still donate, look for details below.

Greater DC Cares depends on generous individuals and community-minded companies to fund its programs, including the ODTUG Kaleidoscope 2010 Community Service Day.  Program leaders are needed to organize the project; food is needed to keep our volunteers energized; paint and other supplies must be purchased; and transportation costs need to be covered.

No donation is too small!  In addition to providing support for the ODTUG Community Service Day, your support of:

  • $25 will help paint an elementary school classroom

  • $50 will help restock a public school library

  • $150 will support financial literacy or job-seeking skills training for students or adults

  • $500 contributes to a jungle gym for a new playground

  • $1,000 will help create a living classroom outdoors to support “green” learning and conservation

Greater DC Cares is a 501(c)(3) organization, so your donation is tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Companies or individuals donating more than $100 will have their names placed on the back of the official ODTUG Community Service T-Shirt
